Washington, D.C. — Senator Mike Lee is calling for increased urgency in the U.S. Senate, urging leadership to prioritize passage of the proposed “SAVE America Act” and avoid further delays.

In remarks directed at Senate Majority Leader John Thune, Lee emphasized the need for lawmakers to remain in session until the legislation is completed. “We’re back. We’ve got to get this done. We’ve got to get it done fast,” he said, underscoring concerns about legislative timing and national priorities.

Criticism of Recent Recess

Lee also expressed frustration over a recent two-week Senate recess, arguing that it came at a critical moment. He pointed to unfinished legislative business, including the status of funding for the Department of Homeland Security, as a key concern.

“Taking a two-week recess with the SAVE America Act undone, with the Department of Homeland Security remaining unfunded, was a mistake,” Lee said, while acknowledging that efforts had been made by some lawmakers to prevent the break.

Call for Procedural Action

In addition to pushing for continuous session, Lee suggested that senators intensify their efforts on the Senate floor, including the possibility of extended debate tactics such as a talking filibuster to accelerate attention on the bill.

The “SAVE America Act” has become a focal point of debate among lawmakers, though details of the proposal and its prospects in Congress remain under discussion.

Broader Legislative Context

The comments reflect ongoing tensions in Congress over legislative priorities, scheduling, and funding deadlines. Lawmakers from both parties continue to negotiate key policy measures amid pressure to address national security funding and other pressing issues.

Developing story — further updates expected as Senate deliberations continue.
