President Donald Trump delivered some strong good news late Friday night, announcing that U.S. forces, working together with Nigerian troops, successfully eliminated one of ISIS’s top leaders.
In a Truth Social post, President Trump confirmed the killing of Abu-Bilal al-Minuki (also referred to as Abu Bilal al-Manuki), described as the second-in-command of ISIS globally. The operation took place at the terrorist’s compound in the Lake Chad Basin region of Nigeria.
Trump wrote:
“Tonight, at my direction, brave American forces and the Armed Forces of Nigeria flawlessly executed a meticulously planned and very complex mission to eliminate the most active terrorist in the world from the battlefield.”
He added that al-Minuki “thought he could hide in Africa, but little did he know we had sources who kept us informed on what he was doing.” The strike also took out several of his lieutenants.
A Significant Blow to ISIS
Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu praised the joint operation, calling it a “daring” success that dealt a heavy blow to ISIS operations across West Africa and the Sahel region. Al-Minuki was reportedly linked to numerous attacks on civilians, including minority communities, and had a long history of directing ISIS-linked violence.
This success comes just hours after President Trump returned from his high-stakes summit in China with President Xi Jinping. Supporters see it as another example of the administration’s commitment to projecting strength and taking the fight directly to terrorists wherever they try to hide.
Broader Context
The operation highlights improved cooperation between the U.S. and African partners in counterterrorism efforts. U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) is said to have released footage showing targeted strikes on the compound.
This victory adds to the list of high-profile ISIS figures removed during Trump’s terms in office, reinforcing his long-standing promise to crush the terrorist group and prevent it from regrouping.
President Trump has consistently argued that strong leadership and decisive action are the best ways to keep Americans safe — both at home and abroad. This latest strike sends a clear message: terrorists who target innocents or plan attacks against American interests will find no safe haven.
